Ever since we moved here 2 years ago, I have been looking into preschools. Dude...preschool sucks in Nevada. It costs alot. I'm not afraid, nor ashamed to say it, but hey, we are poor. We live on a very tight and small budget. I can't afford 130 bucks a week for 2 half days! I always planned on going back to work once Savannah started school, but since Emmett was born, and Emmett happens to have Down Syndrome, and happens to have quite a few medical issues, I don't even know how I would go back to work. I would be working to pay for daycare for both of my kids, including a daycare that deals with special needs children...and then what am I bringing home? nothing. We don't have family in Vegas...well we have my inlaws but they are in no shape to be taking care of my kids 40 hours a week.
I don't have a college education...besides working in a restaurant, the only "real" job I had was working in the mortgage industry in California...which is obviously non-existent now. and the unemployment rate is like the highest in the country....could I even find a job?
and then I go on these boards that are for moms with children with DS or special needs and I just wanna ask....hey any poor folk on here who can give me advice on how the heck you do it?!
I guess I am not that smart. School for Savannah crept up on me too fast and I'm not prepared for it. Shame on me. Well...I did find a state-licensed community center preschool that offers 2 days a week for a couple hours and they are a fraction of the price. The only bad thing is there is only 60 spots at the center and you have to mail in your application (no dropping off) and basically you don't find out for 2 weeks if your child got in or not.
Ugh any advice?

I'm sure you have enough on your plate, but you can always do it yourself or with a co-op. That's what we do. Kids dont HAVE to go to preschool. I didn't go to a real preschool and I was still ready for Kindergarten. There are loads of do it yourself websites and programs. I don't want to pay for preschool either so I decided to do a co-op with a couple other moms. We switch off teaching weekly. It's also nice having some social time for me cause the moms all visit while the kids play after the lessons. I love it. Anyway, just an idea. Hope you figure it out!!
thanx for the idea. A triplet mom here in blogger used the community center and then supplemented with this program called The Learning Box Preschool Program...so I was gonna look into that as well. thanx for the advice em!
um, I didnt even know you had to pay for preschool??? I feel kinda stupid now.
hil - yah right. my mom said she didn't have to pay and we were in preschool 4 days a week! crazy.
emily - again thanx for the advice. i did check into a co-op here in vegas. there is even a waiting list to get into the school that is ran by parents. i'm just gonna go ahead and do everything i can.
there is also a preschool that is ran by the church out here and i believe they have scholarships for the less than well off children, which we do qualify for so I am also going to check into that. :)
