big. bad. pneumonia.

Sorry for my absence.  I haven't had internet for a week.  So now I must catch up on al the blogs. :)

So it happened.  Emmett had pneumonia.
I have read and seen so many blogs of these poor babies and children with Down Syndrome that develop pneumonia and are in the hospital for days, even weeks, and get worse; even fall into comas.  We were very fortunate that Emmett responded to treatment so well and was discharged after only 3 days in the hospital.

It is scary that to think that when Savannah has a cough, we just give her medicine, turn on the humidifier, and she is well in a few days.  We have been so laid back with Emmett, treating him the same way as Vannah, and in doing so, we made it worse.  In trying to be "normal" with Emmett and not freak out over every sniffle or cough, we ignored the warning signs.  Just like every kid is different; Emmett is different.  He needs a little extra care becuase he was born with taht extra chromosome.  And no matter how "normal" or "fair" we try to treat him, he will always need that extra paranoia, that extra care, that extra "what if" and of course....that extra love.  He is still doing breathing treatments but his pediatrician says his lungs are sounding more clear.  And actually he has slept the best he ever has in 6 months!  Which also means...I have slept the best I have in 6 months...LoL.

Now that i have the internet back I will be able to get back to blogging.  Ahhh...how did I ever live without the internet?

(The Southern Nevada Down Syndrome website recently posted a whole file of everything you need to do for your child regarding health issues.  Such as, vision checks, hearing checks, heart problems, respiratory problems, when to check for leukemia and how often, when to have an MRI for spine problems.  It has been so helpful and good reference for the future.)
