Yup, I'm blogging about preschool again. Today was Savannah's first day! Woot Woot. We were 10 minutes late, but a lot of people were becuz it was crazy raining this morning and her school is in Henderson, which is like flash flood central so we drove all cautious. She looked adorable. She was excited and it was a happy moment becuz she just walked right in, put her backpack up on the hanger and was totally fine. It was sad for us becuz she is going to school! Yeah, yeah, its just preschool but...I remember going to preschool! So it is a little wierd for my baby to be going.
And now I have to brag (sorry). When the parents came to pick up the kids, kids are only released one at a time and you have to show ID to get your kid out and when you came to pick up your kid the teacher would tell you if there were any concerns or problems or anything that you might need to talk with your kid about.
***edit. After thinking about what I put...it was very selfish to write that the teacher had no concerns about Savannah for her first day. It might change and I am a parent who is going to accept constructive criticism so I can teach my daughter the proper way to act in class.
AND I wanted to say something about having our child in the worst school district in the country. I read from other las vegas mom blogs and in our newspaper and watch on the news the astounding statistics about the place we live. While it is a teacher's job to teach your kid...it is also the parents responsbility to teach their child too!
YOU HAVE TO START EARLY! Watching Vannah the other day in school; most of the kids in her class didn't know how to even hold a crayon or pencil correctly. For me, that was shocking! I don't understand why parents haven't worked with their kids before preschool. Maybe I am being judgemental but the parents need to be part of their childs learning also.
When Savannah was 5 months old, we saw a segment on TV about how you should talk to your baby and narrate everything you are doing and should speak 17,000 words a day to your kid. It seemed kinda crazy, but we did it. I felt silly at times, but I would say..."mommy is washing a cup. mommy is putting away the plate. mommy is using the can opener to open the spaghettios". LoL. but we saw a difference, espeically when she was around other babies her own age. It is not becuz our child is so gifted or perfect; but becuz we, her parents, work very hard with her. And we have continued to do so into her toddler years as well. While our education system will never be perfect, us parents can strive for better and help our children excel just by being teachers in our every day life.****
She is excited to go back thursday and out of all the crap we have been going through lately. This definitely brightened our spirits.
